More often than not, i feel there always is a cery specific backsory for how someone starts shipping that first ship when they join a new fandom. It can be longer or shorter but whatever it is, it's sometimes fun to look back at and compare to who you are how as a shipper and how much your tastes in ships have changed.
For me, it was last year pretty much at the start of it. At that point i've been playing IDV for over a year (started during time of reunion) and I haven't interacted with the fandom outside of a few of my friends that played the game already. They all had ships they liked but I never paid much attention as I was there purley for the gameplay aspect and collecting Little Girl's skins. But I kinda had a situation at the end of the year and at the start of it that made me wanna distance myself from the fandom I was in at the time, turning me to play IDV a bit more than usual. I then decided I was gonna main a new character since people didn't appriciate me playing Little GIrl (truth to be told I was kinda bad lol) and I decided to pick up Andrew beucase why not? He looked cute to me and I liked his default skin animations, they were so cute.
Not even two days into that, I thought "Why don't I ship this man with someone?" I will note, I have played "White Tombsone" not even 2 months before this, so the only ships I was really familiar with were the ones featured in that game. To add to that, one of my friends also happened to like them too. Thus, I made the decision to go into the Antodrew tag on ao3 and try out my luck with fics and see if I like it. This was all on 4th January of 2023. On 5th January 2023 I wrote my first fic with them and posted it on ao3. I was so excited as It has been maybe 3 years since the last time I wrote for a different fandom to a degree it was "new year, new fandom" moment. I had so much fun writing something as simple as that fic, it was my firest proper interaction with anything other than occasional fanart of characters that would sometimes show up on my feed.
And now, over a year later I'm still very happy I decided to do that. I do not consider them my favourite ship anymore and the way I wrote them then is not the way I write them now, but they still have a very specail place in my heard beucase it was a stepping stone for me to get into this fandom and go on to create so much stuff I am now prud of, even let myself explore themes I wouldn't even think of in my previous fandom. Very glad it happened <3
What's your story?

That's such a nice story to go along with your love of antodrew! For me, it was so long ago now but I think my first main ship that I really enjoyed in the fandom was tonton. Tbh I mostly liked it at first for the funny name That was a trend with earlier ship names, like marymi, where the ship name itself was interesting. But Norton was also one of my first mains! I still play him but oof that recent magnet cooldown nerf hit him hardI like tonton for the fun dynamic of 'strong stoic one' vs 'chaotic lil gremin energy' vibe they've got going on. Plus, they've both got fire trauma, what's not to love.

Hello! My first IDV ship is Joscarl! Beginning with the story: when I joined IDV in 2019, Aesop was one of the reasons, yup, Aesop's background and backstory, and career title intrigued me. His beliefs and values, view about death caught me off, it's unique. I saw the popular content of hunterxsurvivor ships in general, and I was so curious to find out why they shipped them, and it came from the matches in their interactions. I checked and explored ships and JosCarl captured my eyes. Joseph was beautiful; I can see him fit with Aesop for some reason. I asked some ppl why they shipped JosCarl as anon on Tumblr or other social media, someone explained good reason! I wish I could attach a picture here in my reply! I hunt for fanarts and fanfics, I enjoyed it. Oh, I can attach a picture: Alright, my reasons for joscarl: I'm into forbidden love and enemies to lovers. They looked good together in fanarts, but I mentioned someone explained good reasons that expanded my interest in them. I believe Aesop took an interest in one thing about Joseph; he was also the person to talk to and interact with so easily because Joseph looked like an undead, hahaha. They have the potential to share their passions for arts and lose their precious ones. Joseph may took interested in something unique about Aesop. Their challenges are their perspective of living and death, which further their relationship and situations. One day, they once had a conversation about losing precious one that might help them finally able to understand and comfort each other. Bonus: JosCarl has many good skins together, especially Moonlight gentlemen and exorcists. I'm so weak over fairy tales. If I remember correctly, Joscarl in a few essences together. And IDV stageplay has good tastes about them! I'm so happy to see White Tombsone! Tragically, my love for JosCarl got damaged due to a bad experience with my former friend/mutual, but I now work brain rot about female JosCarl in omegaverse AU with my friend!

Oh wow, everyone has genuinely such interesting stories, and its honestly pretty fascinating how everyone's experiences in finding ships are pretty similar yet so different! I think to be safe im going to spoiler this one as i dont wanna make anyone uncomfortable as i will be kinda talking about the ship in length, so here we go. Now my tirade is optional lmao {TL;DR - it was AlvaLuca for me} But alvaluca was the first ship that I ever got into. My friend who was hyperfixated on IDV at the time really tried to get me into it with alvaluca and im ngl yeah, he convinced me. Thats why im still playing the game a year later.
However, alvaluca caught my attention largely because i tend to have a soft spot for the two people obsessing over an idealistic pipe dream kind of dynamic and where it leads. When i read up more on alva and luca as standalone characters, their roles in each others stories and how their paths split off and became so wildly different i couldnt help but ship them more. One thing i love when it comes to messy character relationships is clear nuance you have to actually use to assess their motivations and goals and what they did to get there, there isnt a black and white/right or wrong answer when it comes to the two of them and i do think there is something romantic in their relationship. Is it beyond fucked up, swirled in with venom and hatred, translated more so into yearning for the past and when things were different to the cold, harsh reality of the future the two currently live in now - a desperate need to escape, to any kind of reality but the one they're living in? Yeah. But its really interesting.
This i guess is kinda just me throwing thoughts on them into the void and a part of why theyre special to me is because they got me into the game ofc, but idk. I love these two, i still do.

My first ship was Freddy Norton because when i joined this fandom my friends showed me arts of artists that are long gone now. i love it until this day tbh. At first i really hated freddy x Kreacher i didn't get it because i just knew freddy hated him but i had no idea what was their deal until i played the diaries, saw the way they bicker and i felt for it and its been grabbing my soul since 2020 ahahaha.

I have two answers for you depending on what you want to qualify as a "First Ship"
My FIRST Ship was joscarl. I came in with the Danganronpa 2 crossover circa 2020, and we didn't have a lot of the characters lore at that time. But what we DID have was a really good (and, looking back on it, unfortunately) fairly accessable stageplay that played into Aesop and Joseph as character foils.
However, I think the first pairing I TRUELY invested myself in was VALE Polyshipping. I liked all of them indivually as characters, and was heavily invested in making them make eachother worse. I still kind of have a soft spot for the ship, even if im more invested in canon-leaning pairings these days.

My first ship was Eddrew. I don't remember how or what started me shipping those two but my first early IDV memories were me and 2 of my friends talking nonstop about them. (fun fact: I actually help create the title of the famous eddrew doujin, heehee ). I don't really think much about Eddrew as much as before but they are definitely a nostalgic pairing. I want to include Fredgar (Freddy/Edgar) because I think that's a much more interesting story to tell. Along with Eddrew, I would talk about Fredgar but I was hate-shipping it. I remember not liking Freddy at all, I actually despised him and idr HOW the idea popped in my head but I was like "hmmm, what if Freddy/Edgar?". It became a running joke, until it wasn't a joke anymore and a few fics and art popped up here and there that it finally clicked that, yea, I actually seriously love these two together... And ever since....they are still rotting my brain. They are somewhat my main IDV pairing... So, I might ramble about them here and there, sorry for the jump scare but honestly, my love for those two is what's grounding me to stay in IDV.
